Welcome to The Foothill Musician - Alan Thompson
About Me: I was born in Southern California but grew up in Placerville from the age of eight. Most of my youth was growing up in a nice old house on seven acres overlooking the Placerville valley. There, my parents raised riding and race horses. I spent many days in a kind of "Tom Sawyer" life; hiking through the woods with my dog, hunting and fishing.
I've been a singer since I was a kid, having first performed in public at the age of six. I first started playing music professionally in my early 20s in a Placerville country rock and dance rock band named "Wheatstraw." I was the rhythm guitarist and lead singer. I've also played solo gigs for many weddings, private parties and local restaurants.
I'm currently looking to join a Vocals-oriented group with other singer/musicians in the Placerville - Sacramento area. Memorized repertoire includes several hundred tunes, and I can easily memorize new material. I've played solo and fronted bands, and I have my own gear including a PA. Good range and strong singing voice, centered towards Baritone.

Current musical interests include folk, country, country rock, really old western songs, movie ballads, western and folk ballads, etc, anything that tells a story.
Influences Include: Lyle Lovitt, The Dixie Chicks, Johnny Cash, Roseanne Cash, Willie Nelson, k d lang, James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, ; Sons of The Pioneers, Marty Robbins, Rides In The Sky, Frankie Laine, Townes Van Zandt, Jimmy Webb, Gene Pitney, Glenn Campbell, Alison Krauss, Roy Orbison, Raul Malo, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, and John Hiatt.
I'm currently working on a sort of "musical history" project, which I hope someday to take to the local elementary schools. I'd be interested in hooking up with other local musicians, with an aim toward public performance or just plain song swapping.
